Indicators of Sustainable Tourism

In developing one tourism destination, we need to find out whether the development consents with the sustainable tourism principle. This is important because without the sustainable principle, the destination might not be survive as an attraction to the visitors in a long time period. Some concepts have been initiated to help the destination managers (i.e. local governments) to apply the principles in the development process. The World Tourism Organization (WTO) from the United Nation however had proposed some indicators to let us know if sustainable tourism is already incorporated by the destination. Those indicators are shown in the following table:


It means that we can see if the above eleven indicators are in order or not. If any of the above indicators say no, the local government should properly control the implementation of the tourism development in the destination.
